Considering the enormous value society assigns to intelligence, we can be sure that corporations will find ways to develop AI at full speed.

In this new AI arms race, competitors will seek to gain the advantage by developing and deploying advanced AI systems as quickly as possible.

Incentives are not aligned to encourage careful, measured advancements. There are no discouraging restrictions or punishments either. Even if regulations to slow and control AI were implemented, the fear that a competitor might not follow the rules is a risk no one will take.

We are living in the wild west of AI, where everyone is out to capture as much digital territory as possible and enrich themselves before the town sheriffs arrive to control chaos and enforce law & order.

If AI is the new gold and this is the new wild west, remember it’s best to avoid the saturated race for gold and focus instead on selling picks and shovels. The AI chip fabricating company Nvidia is a triumphant example.
