But… Won’t we adapt like before?
Those comparing AGI to the industrial revolution forget that mechanical engines and systems took many decades to transform society. Humans have historically had quite a long time to adapt and prepare for each of the past technological revolutions.
Today, we all seem to be waiting for AGI, unfazed like a frog in warm water, unaware the pot is warming up, and we risk not recognizing the singularity moment in which the AI becomes too hot to handle.
Humanity will eventually adapt to our future technological growth. But the unprecedented speed of growth and its consequent growing pains will feel as if humanity was a child whose bones are suddenly about to grow an entire decade’s worth of inches in just a few weeks.
We are up for excruciating pain! …But we will all likely be huge afterward!
