The hero’s journey in the simulation

If we entertain the idea that we're living in a simulation—a video game observed by creators studying how humanity solves the AGI dilemma—it follows that each of us has a role to play.

Rather than seeing ourselves as NPCs (Non-Player Characters), it's more empowering to view ourselves as protagonists in this grand experiment. Imagine hidden cameras streaming our actions 24/7—we might as well act courageously, in ways we'd be proud to display.

So, how can our tiny influence—as one among 7 billion—help protect humanity from AGI's impact?

I grappled with this question until an idea struck me: In the Hero’s Journey, it's always the unlikely, seemingly powerless figure—a farmworker, a student, or an entrepreneur—who must face a powerful adversary. When they feel most lost, they draw upon the lessons from their journey and, through courage and sacrifice, achieve victory against an overwhelming threat.

Maybe the real reason the Hero’s Journey has resonated across generations is because we were designed within a simulation to face AGI. Perhaps this is what humanity has been preparing for all along. As unlikely as it may seem, the only way for us to "win this game" is for each of us to embrace our heroic calling and stand up to impossible odds, in hopes that a small miracle might follow.

If that was the case, we must assume each of the situations and people we encountered in our life path has not been entirely accidental… Each of us must find a way to harness those life lessons and networks into a heroic path of action. Our Hero’s Journey within the simulation.
