Fatalist ideas vs Positive bias

We spend more time worrying about potential threats than considering potential good fortune. Similarly, we tend to dismiss the likelihood that we could be as badly affected by negative outcomes as others.

Caught between these extremes, it’s important to counteract our biases and think as clearly as possible. I find it helpful to make lists of potential problems, then think outside the box to consider how two or more negative outcomes might cancel each other out in creative and unexpectedly positive ways.

After all, arithmetic teaches us that -1 multiplied by -1 equals +1!
