First rule is of AI is: “Never forget the first rule of AI”

AI’s rapid growth defies our past life experiences. To realistically predict AI’s development, we must actively resist intuitions shaped by past technological change.

One trick I find helpful is to always remember that while the current state of AI available to the public may seem incredibly advanced compared to past technology. However, it already represents past technology—much less powerful than the newer versions that AI companies are developing but have not yet been shared with the public.

Similarly, when we experience the next, more impressive version of AI, we must remember that this too will already be "old technology" compared to what is being privately developed at that moment.
