AGI is a moving target: we must calibrate our aim

I’ve always been a geek for statistics and historical quotes. Growing up with a degree of autism, I was always fascinated by external metrics and opinions that helped me calibrate my biases and develop a clearer grasp of reality.

AGI is a constantly moving target. To aim our next steps accurately, we must understand its nature, trajectory, and destination. These three quotes can serve as a tripod to better stabilize our aim.

EINSTEIN: “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” There’s little time left. Keep it simple, stick to the basics of AI’s mechanics, and instead expand on the complexities of its repercussions.

F. S. FITZGERALD: “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in the mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.” Embrace complexity and contradiction. Prepare to evaluate paradoxical scenarios that would have been impossible before.

SCHOPENHAUER: “Talent hits a target no one else can hit; genius hits a target no one else can see.” When aiming our strategies at a new moving target, look beyond where everyone expects AI to advance next. Abandon common intuitions and think from first principles: What is the next AI target that no one else can see? ...Become a genius!
