But… What are the chances that the threat is real this time?

For 300,000 years, every new generation of humans grew up in a world almost identical to the one in which their ancestors previously experienced.

Technological development only really started accelerating in the last few thousand years. At a rate of 25 years per generation, only 8 generations of humans have existed since the Industrial Revolution. And less than 2 generations have been born since the birth of the internet.

The possibility we will face unprecedented disruptions has never been historically higher than today. Similarly, the possibility to benefit from a technological opportunity has also never been higher.

In business, as in war, it’s important to look for a silver lining during a crisis and to seek opportunities that might not have existed before. As Winston Churchill famously said during the end of World War II: “Never let a good crisis go to waste.”

May we act immediately and not waste our time wishing our wishes away. Because this is a very different time within time.
